Pteroon (teh-ROON) contains only two small species with fleshy flowers that are distinguished by plate-like keels of the ovaries that overlap the bases of the sepals.  The plants are small, caespitose, with short ramicauls and a slender, sub-erect peduncle with a single flower.  The sepals form a short tube with thick, round tails, and with veins thickened and keeled.  These were previously treated in Masdevallia subgenus Pygmaeia section Aphanes.  DNA analysis indicates that Pteroon should be excluded not only from Luzama, but also from Diodonopsis.
