From the Latin ornatus, "ornate", referring to the fringe of the sepals and petals.

Additional Information: Apparently rare and known from only two widely separated localities in Venezuela and Ecuador at altitudes of around 1,300 feet (400 m).
This is one of the smallest flowered species of orchids. The plant with inflorescence is only 1 cm tall (about a half inch).
