Ophidion (oh-FID-ee-on) consists of just a handful of species found in Central America and the Andes.  The name means "a little snake" in Greek and the end of the sepals are united to form a lateral window that gives the appearance of the reptile.  They have large, rigid lips and four pollinia.  The leaves, much like many other Pleurothallids, are narrowly elliptical.
