Named for a gorgon of Greek mythology in reference to the inflorescence resembling a head of snaky locks.

Award:  CBR given on 03-10-2002 at the Northeast Ohio Orchid Society Show.

Additional Information:  Occurs locally in the mountainous forests of southeastern Ecuador at altitudes ranging from 3,280 feet (1,000 m) to 4,920 feet (1,500 m).

The ramicauls on this species are nearly 31 inches (80 cm) tall!
