Myoxanthus (mye-oks-AN-thus) consists of nearly 50 species very closely allied with the genus Pleurothallis.  From the Greek words for "a dormouse" and "a flower", there must be some quality of the flower that prompted the taxonomist to name it such.  They are widely distributed in Central and South America.  The stem sheaths are usually covered with short stiff hairs and the single, often fuzzy, flowers may appear clustered.
