From the Latin trullifer, "bearing a spoon," referring to the shape of the lip like an inverted ladle or spoon.

Additional Information:  Apparently endemic in the Cordillera del Condor of southeastern Ecuador at altitudes of 4,920 feet (1,500 m) to 5,410 feet (1,650 m).
