Named in honor of Walter Teague of San Francisco, California, co-discoverer of the species.

Additional Information:  Infrequently found in cloud forests of southern Ecuador where it is apparently endemic at altitudes of 6,890 feet (2,100 m) to 9,840 feet (3,000 m).  These photos show the lip in both the up and down position.
