Masdevallia Stephanie Callahan

(M. norops x M. tovarensis)

Plant ID:  04500

Additional Information:  M. tovarensis gave this hybrid the "double flower" blooming habit along with the transluscent qualities with opaque veins.  However, instead of being a white flower as what typically happens with M. tovarensis hybrids, there is a flush of orange in the dorsal and a flush of pink in the laterals.  The flower form got some whimsical twist from M. norops.  This is only the first bloom from this cross.  It will be interesting to see what else happens.

This plant was named for an Airedale Terrier rescue coordinator, Stephanie Callahan, from Minnesota.  The first thing that struck me about this plant was the dual flowers.  Stephanie comes from the "Twin Cities" area - a perfect match!  the soft colors remind me of her soft approach to rescue.  Stephanie has brought breeders and volunteers together to help homeless Airedales.
