Named in honor of Sr. Mario Portilla of Cuenca, Ecuador, who along with Padre Andreetta discovered this species

Additional Information:  Is rare and apparently endemic in one area of southern Ecuador at around 4,920 feet (1,500 m) to 5,900 feet (1,800 m).
