Named in honor of Mark Chase of the University of Michigan, who with Dr. Kerry Walter discovered this species.

Additional Information:  Apparently endemic outside the Monteverde Forest Preserve in the damp, mossy forest of smaller trees in western Costa Rica at altitudes ranging from 4,590 feet (1,400 m) to 5,580 feet (1,700 m).
