Species Genera Recognized Barbosella

Barbosella (bar-boh-SEL-lah) is comprised of about 20 species widespread from Central America to Brazil. Named in honor of J. Barbosa Rodriguez, a well known investigator of Brazilian orchids, these mostly creeping plants have single flowers with a unique lip base that works like a ball and socket. The species of Barbosella miersii of Brazil was thought to differ from the other species of Barbosella in terms of its lip. The monotypic genus Barbrodria was created to accommodate this species.
