From the Latin felix, "fruitful," in reference to the large percentage of capsules produced.

Additional Information: Occurs relatively frequently on the western slopes of the Andes of northwestern Ecuador and southernmost Colombia from 4,600 feet (1,400 m) to 6,900 feet (2,100 m).
