Empusella (em-pooh-SELL-ah) is new unispecific genus with species that used to belong to Pleurothallis subgenus Empusella. Vegetatively it is similar to many species of Masdevallia. The peduncle and floral bracts are laterally compressed. The raceme gradually lengthens over a long period of time as the large, rigid, fleshy flowers are produced. The sepals are essentially free and markedly verrucose within. Empusella endotrachys (Rchb.f.) Luer
