From the Latin radiellus, "a little radiating", referring to the radiating lamellae within the epichile of the lip, and the similarity to the large-flowered Dracula radiosa.

Additional Information:  Apparently endemic in the virgin forest along the new road to Maldonado in northwesternmost Ecuador at altitudes of 7,870 feet (2,400 m) to 8,200 feet (2,500 m).
