Diodonopsis (dye-ah-doh-NOPP-sis) is composed of three species previously recognized at the section level of Masdevallia section Pygmaeae.  They are characterized by small caespitose plants with short ramicauls, slender peduncles and soft, burr-like ovaries.  The flowers of two species are solitary and the third is successively flowered.  The sepals have tails and form a short tube or cup.  When the final DNA analysis is done, M. pygmaea may or may not be in this genus.
