Additional Information:  Occurs extensively in the mountains of Central America, and through the Andes from Venezuela into Bolivia at altitudes of 6500 feet (200 m) to 10,820 feet (6,500 m).  W well-known population grows by the tens of thousands as a terrestrial weed in full sunlight on ancient lava beds around Baņos in Ecuador.
