Named in honor of Sr. Rodrigo Escobar of Medellin, Colombia, who has successfully cultivated this species since its discovery.

Additional Information:  Found in Colombia at altitudes ranging from 4,600 feet (1,400 m) to 5,250 feet (1,600 m).

No, the inflorescences are not dead, they just look like it.  But at the tip of each you will find either a bud or flower.  Some of these inflorescences are several years old and still blooming.
