From the Latin aenigma, "an aenigma," in reference to the confusion concerning the identity of this species.

Additional Information:  Apparently endemic in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia at altitudes of around 5,000 feet (1,525 m) to 8,200 feet (2,500 m).
