From the Latin caesius, "lavender blue" referring to the bluish color of the leaves.

Additional Information:  Infrequent and endemic in the southern parts of the Western Cordillera of Colombia at altitudes of around 5,250 feet (1,600 m) to 7,200 feet (2,200 m).
